The intelligent chassis design of the Linksys Network Storage System (NSS) series of products gives IT managers, VARs and integrators the flexibility to configure or reconfigure a storage system for specific business requirements. A Linksys Business Series NSS product can be optimized for performance, capacity and/or reliability depending on the size and type of Serial ATA (SATA) drives selected or included. Supporting as many as 15 or 75 concurrent CIFS (Windows, Macintosh, or Linux) users, Linksys Business Series NSS products bring robust Network Attached Storage (NAS) within reach of today’s budget-minded small businesses or workgroups in larger organizations.

Linksys Business Series NSS devices are ideal for storing, backing up, sharing and archiving critical company or customer documents, large high-definition video or animation files, multimedia presentation files, surveillance video, and more on an on-going basis. The feature set of the rack-mountable Linksys NSS series set it apart from entry-level, desktop NAS systems. At the same time, its competitive pricing gives small businesses the opportunity to realize substantial cost savings when compared with more expensive and inflexible server arrays.

Linksys One Ready
Unlike other NAS systems, that need to contain operating system software on one or more hard drives, each Linksys NSS product features a unique and intelligent chassis that contains the Linux OS that controls the system. This gives the NSS system the flexibility to be configured without connected drives and reconfigured at any time, even hot swapping and resorting hard drives to different storage bays.

With a Linksys NSS product there’s no need to purchase third-party OS software upgrades, third-party OS software licenses, or accessories to run NSS units. This flexible architecture makes the Linksys Business Series NSS series ideally suited for budget-conscious companies that are constantly evolving or growing.

Small businesses, instead of purchasing very expensive pre-configured and inflexible storage systems now have the option to purchase cost-saving Linksys NSS products and apply their savings toward the purchase of other feature-rich Linksys Small Business products – IP Voice Systems (LVS or Linksys One), Managed Gigabit Switches, Gigabit Routers, Wireless-N routers, Access Points and more. In fact, an entire small business network could be built for their company for what they might have spent just for a storage system.

And Linksys NSS products are Linksys One Ready. That means they include the necessary firmware to be integrated into a Linksys One data or data/voice network. Once connected to a Linksys One switch, a Linksys One Service Router will discover the NSS device and make it available to other users on the network.

Instant Installation and Hot Swapping
Each Linksys Network Storage Systems device utilizes an internal flash memory based disk system, to simplify setup and configuration. Because the Linux OS resides in the intelligent chassis of each Linksys NSS product, the system can be booted and configured without drives installed and without the need for complicated CD- or DVD-based installation. This architecture allows for hot swapping of single drives in the RAID set within the chassis without disruption or loss of system configuration settings.

Linksys Approved Vendor List For Network Storage Systems
The list of approved hard drive vendors below are the only drives recommended by Linksys for use in the NSS4000 and NSS6000 storage chassis systems. Use of unsupported drives could result in unpredictable system behavior and could result in data loss. Please consult the user guide and product warranty for additional information.

Better Return on Investment through Lower Operation Costs
Linksys NSS products also include time-saving and energy-saving features like Microsoft Active Directory Integration, hot-swappable drives, hot-spare drives, and much lower power consumption requirements than more expensive, feature-comparable NAS products from other brands. These operating cost savings deliver a much quicker return on investment for budget-conscious companies.

Mix-and-Match-Pay As A Network Expands
Adding another NSS product to act as a mirror array to an existing NSS device is as simple as connecting it to the network. Each NSS device includes two Gigabit Ethernet ports for connectivity to a Gigabit Switch or to stack to another NSS device. As a result, expanding the capacity or providing for greater data integrity and redundancy is as simple as adding more NSS arrays. The flexible architecture of the NSS series is especially suited for budget-conscious companies that are constantly growing and evolving and who would prefer a network attached storage system that can grow and evolve with them.

Linux OS Embedded Architecture for Lower Sustaining Cost of Ownership
Unlike other NAS systems, that need to contain operating system software on one or more hard drives, each Linksys NSS product features a unique and intelligent chassis that contains the Linux OS that controls the system. With a Linksys NSS product there’s no need to purchase entirely new and pre-configured NAS systems, drives, third-party OS software upgrades, third-party licenses, third-party license renewals, or accessories to operate it.
